This recently published article is adapted from the authors upcoming publication, The Fell Pony Family Album. The article explores the history of Fell ponies, particularly with regard to their remarkable talent for driving. The title refers to the fact that the Fell pony is the driving pony of choice for the Royal Family in the U.K. H.R.H the Duke of Edinburgh regularly competes with H.M. The Queen's team of Fell ponies. In fact, H.M. The Queen herself (then H.R.H Princess Elizabeth) also drove a Fell pony to victory at the Royal Windsor Horse Show back in the 1940's. |
